On My Own Community Services is a non-profit providing a wide range of vocational services and job placement for people with disabilities.
As a Vocational Specialist l you will provide vocational service supports for adults with disabilities.
Vocational supports may include, but are not limited to, coaching clients in areas of employment, academic programs, certifications or volunteerism.
Vocational Specialists interact with employers, advocates and the public.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
The Vocational Specialist may be assigned to clients receiving one or more of the support programs within On My Own Community Services.
These include, but are not limited to, Job Coaching (JC), Job Development (JD), Work Experience (WE), and Tailored Day Services (TDS) as defined by VS Program Manager.
Provides training and support tailored to meet client's goals outlined in the Individual Service Plan (ISP), and in accordance with employer or volunteer sites.
Conducts job development and job search activities directed toward positions that are individualized to the interests and uniqueness of the clients.
Serves as an advocate for clients to make inclusive, person-centered choices, and facilitates client's inclusion in the workforce.
Spends at least 90% of total scheduled work hours in the community providing support to clients or connection to employers.
Travels to client work sites and other community locations.
Shadows other programs to learn VS program components as assigned.
Maintains all client and company records to include, but not limited to:
progress notes, incident reports, health and safety risk assessments, monthly and bi-annual reports, and other necessary records for services rendered, as well as employer contacts.
Follows all policies, procedures, directives, and deadlines presented, as outlined in orientation, training, supervision, and any employment materials presented.
Serves as a Mandated Reporter including APS, Special Incident Reports and Shared Information.
Acts as liaison between On My Own Community Services and external agencies.
Maintains professional and timely communication, and positive rapport and relationships with external agencies, co-workers, supervisors, and client's circle of support.
Immediately brings to the attention of the team and/or supervisor any opportunity for improvement in agency processes, or problem affecting the agency or its services to clients.
Work toward the resolution of these opportunities and problems.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED Equivalent (preferred).
Experience working with individuals with disabilities is highly desirable.
Vocational experience in a community-based employment setting is preferred.
Ability to respect the rights and dignity of all clients.
Basic computer literacy and skills to use email, internet and software programs in a variety of applications.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and maintain effective working relationships with other staff and clients.
Demonstrated organizational, problem solving and common sense skills.
Willingness to work a flexible schedule.
Work effectively as part of a team, as well as independently.
Valid California driver's license with reliable transportation (must be willing to drive own vehicle) and proof of automobile insurance in employee's name.
Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) is a PLUS! (not required) REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; bend; sit; use hands to handle objects; lift; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear.
Vision and hearing must be sufficient to perform job functions safely including visual acuity to perform activities such as data entry, preparing reports, viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading, and visual inspection of one's own work product at varying distances.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Employee may notify OMOCS if accommodations are needed to perform these duties.
COVID-19 vaccinations, including booster vaccinations, are mandated for all employees of On My Own in accordance with California Dept.
of Public Health Orders.
Employees may qualify for exemption from vaccination requirements due to sincerely held religious beliefs or qualifying medical reasons.
Exempt, unvaccinated employees must wear a surgical mask or higher level respirator at all times in the workplace.
This position has a fixed starting wage.
